You will not deter me, Governor Wavinya tells rivals

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti yesterday came out guns blazing, accusing her political rivals of attempting to involve her in unnecessary wrangles and divert her attention from serving the people of Machakos County who elected her.

She cited a section of members of the Machakos County Assembly as being used by certain leaders, both local and national, to create bad blood and paint a negative picture of the people of Machakos.

Speaking at Mitaboni Africa Church in Kathiani constituency, the Governor, who was accompanied by her Deputy Francis Mwangangi, vowed that no amount of threats or intimidation would ever scare her.

“My Deputy and I have been working in harmony to serve the people of Machakos, but disgruntled elements outside the county government structure are envious of our progress, which has led to the creation of cracks that do not exist,” she said, adding that such MCAs and their lieutenants would be in for a big surprise after failing to achieve their ill-gotten goals.

She claimed that some forces from the former county regime, who were dissatisfied with what they had, were behind the scheme, the main aim of which was to sabotage Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s dream for 2027.

“Let them concentrate on the national cake and stop using MCAs to fight Wiper indirectly through me,” she said.

Without mincing words, she told former Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to put his house in order and keep out of the affairs of Wiper leadership, as he would never win the war.

In his reaction, Dr Mutua diverted from the subject and called for unity to prevail in Ukambani ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said he was ready to be part of the reconciliation effort in Ukambani to bring the community together for the sake of unity.

He urged local leaders to bury the hatchet and solidify their unity for the good of the region.
