A woman who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with eight pellets of cocaine valued at Sh2.5 million has denied committing the act.
Wendy Mbeke appeared before JKIA Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku, where she denied trafficking the narcotics.
State prosecutor Allen Mulama told Magistrate Thuku that the narcotics were to be delivered in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
She was first taken to court on June 16, where police were given four days to hold her as they continued investigations into the matter.
According to the investigating officer, Nichola Ruttoh, she was to fly to the UAE using an Arabian flight and was arrested while checking in at around 11am.
A preliminary examination from JKIA officers showed that she had swallowed some substances that they suspected to be drugs and had some more in her private parts.
She was placed under observation by the detectives and the drugs weighing 626 grams were recovered at around 7pm.
A test from the government chemist confirmed that the pellets recovered from Mbeke were cocaine.
