Mombasa blogger and political activist Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa-001, has protested being abandoned and exposed to danger by the Witness Protection Agency (WPA).
On September 12, 2024, Bruce was accosted by more than 10 people on motorbikes at Bamburi Mwisho. The gang forced their way into his house and abducted him.
At least four people were arrested and charged with the abduction and gang rape/sodomy of the blogger victim. Senior officials of the Mombasa County government were linked to the crime.
Governor Abdulswamad Nassir and County Executive Committee officer Mohamed Hussein alias Amado recorded statements with the police about the incident.
Nassir and Hussein have denied any involvement in the incident. The governor has particularly called for an investigation and for the case to be expedited so that the victim can get justice.
Yesterday, Bruce described how officers from the Witness Protection Agency (WPA) allegedly abandoned him in the Nyali area. He said he was under WPA since the case started last year.
Bruce said from his hideout that he was allegedly cheated out of a safe house in Embu a week ago and moved to the Coast to testify and placed under the agency’s care in Mombasa.
“After I appeared in court, I was immediately put under the WPA because I mentioned influential people behind the heinous act meted out on me,” Bruce said.
Bruce said he was first taken to Kakamega County, where he spent a week before WPA transferred him to Nairobi for a month.
“I was well taken care of by the witness care officers who were assigned to me. It was a different story when I was moved to Embu’s Kangaru area in the Manyatta constituency.
“It is here where some household goods were bought in my name and I was told that they belonged to me. These included a television set, a fridge, and a blender,” he said.
Bruce, who is now being hosted by a good Samaritan in his hideout, said that while in Embu, there was an attempt on his life after he was served poisoned food.
“There was this day when one of my handlers took me out for a late breakfast at a local eatery within Embu town. I ordered ugali and chicken and wanted to have soda (black currant), which was not available at the premises. The soda was bought from outside the hotel,” he said.
He claimed that when his lunch sojourn was done, he retreated to his safe abode, and started feeling sharp pains in his stomach.
“The pain was excruciating. I was rushed to Embu Level 5 hospital where medics treated me for food poisoning,” he said.

Bruce is also wondering why a promised dental correction procedure had not been undertake. He says his dental formula had been interfered with after 28 teeth were removed, leaving him with only four following the attack.
“These people (WPA) undertook to rectify my dental formula but nothing has been done,” he said.
