On October 25, Okoth reportedly approached a caretaker in the Charity area, introducing himself as a teacher and seeking a vacant unit.

According to the caretaker, the would-be tenant haggled over the rent, initially proposing to pay KSh 4,000 for the month until November 25.

He eventually settled on a total of KSh 5,550, which included rent, a water deposit, and a prorated fee for the remaining days of October.

After securing the rental, Okoth promptly moved in new furniture, including a bed, a sofa set, a table, a television, and an audio system.

Eyewitnesses noted additional items in the room, such as pairs of shoes and a purple briefcase filled with clothes.

When officers raided his apartment, they discovered a woman, described by locals as an employee of a nearby pub.

Mohamed Amin, the boss of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), disclosed that Okoth and his partner were taken into custody.
