During the operation, officers recovered a stolen Ceska pistol belonging to Ayieko, a key piece of evidence that could advance the investigation into his tragic death.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Nyanza Regional DCI Coordinator Lenny Kisaka confirmed that a third suspect, a male, managed to escape during the police operation in Wagai, Gem sub-county on Tuesday, October 29.
The suspect reportedly fled with gunshot wounds after the confrontation with law enforcement.

“We received intelligence regarding a planned robbery along the Luanda–Siaya Road, which led us to set up a trap to apprehend the suspects,” Kisaka explained.
The coordinated police team flagged down a private saloon car with registration number KDN 948 B. When the occupants attempted to flee, a shootout ensued.
“The suspects fired into the air, and our officers responded by deflating their vehicle’s tyres, forcing them off the road,” Kisaka detailed.
The male suspect escaped on foot into a nearby thicket, eventually boarding a motorcycle, while the female suspects were apprehended.
Officers recovered a Ceska pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition, identified by serial numbers that matched Ayieko’s missing weapon.
This recovery points to the weapon’s potential connection to other criminal activities. Following the incident, police deployed tracking dogs that led them to a hideout near the scene.

“Despite these efforts, the wounded suspect managed to evade arrest again, but we apprehended the second female suspect and retrieved a police jungle uniform believed to be used in robberies along the Kisumu-Busia Highway,” Kisaka reported.
He urged the public to stay vigilant and report anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical help.
“We encourage community members to contact the DCI through the Fichua number 08100722203 if they observe anything suspicious,” Kisaka added.
Addressing friends and relatives of Willis Ayieko, Kisaka assured;
“We are treating this as a serious criminal case, and all those involved will be brought to justice.”
With the recent arrests, the total number of suspects detained in connection with Ayieko’s murder has risen to three, following the arrest of Victor Okoth in Dandora, Nairobi.
Okoth is currently being arraigned at Siaya Law Courts.
