The Kenya Veterinary Board has launched investigations into East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member David Ole Sankok, following a video posted on his Facebook page on August 4, 2025, in which he is seen injecting cattle with what is believed to be prescription-only veterinary medicine.

The video, captioned “Ramatare… just transformed myself from a member of parliament to a veterinarian to inject my cattle”, has sparked outrage among veterinary professionals and members of the public, prompting formal complaints to the Board.

According to the Board, Sankok’s actions appear to breach provisions of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Act, 2011, and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate Regulations, 2013.

Specifically, the Board cited Section 38(c) of the VSVP Act, which prohibits unregistered individuals from posing as veterinary professionals, and Section 15(7), which makes it an offence to practice veterinary medicine without proper registration.

Offenders found guilty under these provisions face a fine of up to Sh100,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

“The Board wishes to reiterate that only registered and licensed Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals are allowed to undertake veterinary practice in Kenya,” said Dr. Mary T. Agutu, the Registrar of the Kenya Veterinary Board, in an official statement.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Board has promised further action pending the outcome.
