Uplift marginalised regions, legislators challenge President

Three MPs have urged President William Ruto to focus on pursuit of economic justice to marginalised communities.

Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei (UDA), Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo (UDA), Nominated MP Renee Mayaka (ODM) said the President should not be distracted by his critics, saying he has the support of many Kenyans.

“The mission that bears currency today is relentless and deliberate pursuit of structural economic justice geared towards the empowerment and betterment of all Kenyans,” said Kimaiyo.

Mayaka said they support the President’s decision to reach out to different segments of the society including religious leaders, the youth, women, trade unions, the academia and the opposition.

“That is why we firmly reject the shareholder principle based on ethnic exclusion in access to national government opportunities and services. That is why support the government efforts to create employment opportunities for the thousands of young unemployed Kenyans,” said Mayaka.

Sigei said the task of holding the government accountable is distributed in various institutions created by the Constitution.

“The Minority Party as well as other parliamentary parties are part of the governance structure in Kenya with a shared responsibility to support the government in creating stability in times national crises that can endanger our shared nationhood,” said Sigei.

Kimaiyo said ODM had done the right thing by entering into the broad-based arrangement with the ruling UDA party alliance.
