The duo reportedly drowned while swimming in an open quarry on the afternoon of Monday, November 4.

A Citizen Digital report indicated that the two students were swimming alone in a quarry located near Moi University’s main campus in the Kesses area when the unfortunate accident occurred.
The quarry, situated just a short distance from the institution, has long been a spot where students often go to relax.
Kesses police chief Charles Chacha confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies of the two young men were retrieved from the water and have since been transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret mortuary.
The deceased students were later identified as Wycliffe Machuki, a third-year student, and Chris Otieno, a second-year student.
Chacha noted that the police were informed about the incident shortly after it happened, and efforts to rescue the students were mounted immediately, though it was unfortunately too late.

“We are investigating the incident and will provide a full report once the investigations are complete,” Chacha stated, urging students and local residents to exercise caution.
The tragic incident comes just days before Moi University’s scheduled reopening on Friday, following a month-long closure.
How Tiberious Mamwacha drowned
In related news, South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) was thrown into mourning following the tragic loss of a first-year student.
The first-year student lost his life following a drowning accident in the Mwita Syano River located at SEKU premises.
Tiberious Mamwacha, aged 20, was in the company of two others when they went swimming students on Friday swimming.
In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, the three students were captured having fun as they swam in the flooded river.
The student filming others swimming could be heard encouraging others to continue swimming toward the river bank.

However, what started as innocent fun turned into a nightmare after Mwamwacha drowned as his colleagues watched helplessly.
After hours of search, local divers managed to retrieve Mwamwacha’s body as the residents watched in disbelief.
