U.S, UK embassies condemn Ojwang’s death in custody


The United States Embassy in Kenya has joined calls for a transparent and thorough investigation into the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang’.

Amid growing public outcry over the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death, the Embassy through a press statement, voiced support for calls by the Kenyan government, lawmakers, and citizens for a transparent and accountable investigation. 

It urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct its ongoing investigation swiftly and thoroughly.

“We also call on the Kenyan government to ensure IPOA has the access and support needed to perform its duties, it stated.

The United Kingdom Embassy in Kenya has echoed similar sentiments while condoling with the late’s family and friends.

“We echo calls for a swift, independent, and thorough investigation into his death in custody. Rule of law, accountability, and free speech are vital pillars of any democracy,” the statement stressed.

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, also joined the call for justice, emphasizing the need for clarity in the case.

“The loss of a child is a pain no parent should ever endure, and when the circumstances remain unclear, that pain is even heavier,” the statement read.

. “A just society is built on the foundation of accountability and the unwavering application of the rule of law. Let us ensure this process reaches its rightful conclusion.”
