“Talk to your youth before guns do”: Wetang’ula to Baringo MPs

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Members of Parliament from Baringo County to use the parliamentary recess period to engage their communities in restoring peace in the region.

Addressing the House on Tuesday, Wetang’ula urged the MPs to engage with their constituents, particularly the youth, many of whom have been linked to banditry and illegal firearms.

“Encourage them to stop wielding illegal guns. These are the same young men who vote for you. Meet them, talk to them—play your part in securing peace,” he stated.

At the same time, Wetangula commended the Administration and National Security Committee for its report on security challenges in six counties, noting that while Turkana, Samburu, Isiolo, and Marsabit have seen relative calm, Baringo remains plagued by instability.

“Currently, the area experiencing the most problems is Baringo. We will present a full report to the House after the recess,” the Committee Vice Chairman Dido Raso stated.

The Speaker specifically urged the legislators including; Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio), Joseph Makilap (Baringo North), William Kamket (Tiaty), Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine), Florence Jematia (County MP), Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central), and Charles Kamuren (Baringo South) to actively engage the youths physically.

On their part, the targeted MPs expressed their readiness to control the security situation.

“We take your directive seriously. On behalf of all members, we will work to clean up the mess in Baringo,” Musa Sirma stated.
