Stephen Munyakho: Saudi Arabia Postpones Execution of Kenyan Murder Convict for 1 Year

Nairobi – The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has announced the postponement of the execution of Stephen Munyakho, who had been detained for murder in Saudi Arabia.

In a press statement released on Thursday, October 24, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei said that the authorities in Saudi Arabia granted the request to allow further negotiations between all parties.

Korir disclosed that Munyakho’s execution, which was scheduled to take place on November 26, has been postponed for another year to allow parties to settle outstanding obligations.

“I am pleased to inform that after strenuous negotiations between our Mission in Riyadh, Saudi Authorities and the Widow, the impending execution of judgement against Stephen Munyakho (Abdulkareem) due for November 26, 2024 has been postponed for another one year to allow parties settle outstanding obligations,” Korir said.

According to Korir, the latest development is based on the good relationships between the two countries.

The PS commended Kenyan ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Ramadhan Ruwange, for leading the negotiations over Munyakho’s tribulations.

“We shall continue relying on our two countries’ cordial relations towards concluding the matter. The goodwill of all Kenyans, partners, and stakeholders is equally appreciated. I commend Ambassador Ruwange for his leadership on this important matter,” he added.
