Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to government officials who are stalling the implementation of key development programmes, stating that such delays will reflect negatively on their performance contracts.

Speaking during the 3rd National Executive Retreat held at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Kindiki said the government was determined to ensure effective execution of its priority initiatives, particularly under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“Mid-term performance focusing on how the implementation of the bottom-up transformation agenda has stabilised the economy enabling it to overcome structural challenges, “ he noted.

The Deputy President praised improved engagement between government departments, stakeholders, and the public, noting this had streamlined coordination and reduced programmatic overlaps.

“Most of the resolutions of the retreat have been implemented but there are others that are off track and have not been implemented,” Kindiki remarked.

He highlighted the Affordable Housing Programme as one of the transformative initiatives yielding tangible results.

According to Kindiki, the project has not only provided decent housing for thousands of Kenyans but also created employment opportunities for the youth and stimulated growth in the construction value chain.

He added that the initiative had been particularly beneficial to micro and small enterprises through supply contracts.

Kindiki further appreciated the role of development partners in supporting Kenya’s growth journey.

However, he urged government agencies to swiftly address the bottlenecks hampering the absorption of donor loans and grants.

On the health front, the Deputy President noted significant progress in the rollout of Universal Health Coverage.

He revealed that over 23 million Kenyans had registered for the new Social Health Insurance scheme, a remarkable leap from the 8 million previously covered under the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

He called for sustained momentum and accountability across all sectors to ensure that national transformation goals are achieved in full.
