Siaya County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Trade, Grace Agola, is facing possible impeachment after Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) launched a motion to remove her from office.

The impeachment motion, spearheaded by East Ugenya MCA Fredrick Omoro, has already garnered support from 32 out of 42 MCAs, signaling strong backing for Agola’s ouster.

Agola, who has served as Trade CEC since Governor James Orengo took office, is accused of incompetence and violations of the Constitution.

Her leadership has come under scrutiny, with MCAs citing alleged mismanagement and failure to deliver on her mandate.

If the motion proceeds, Agola could become the latest high-ranking county official to face impeachment under Orengo’s administration.

While tabling the motion, Omoro said the mismanagement of casual workers and market cleaners has resulted in suffering and hardship for some casual workers, as some have not received their wages.

“Others have been unpaid and there is a risk of public funds being lost due to over-payment to some workers,” stated the MCA.

Angola is further accused of perjury and violating Section 22(1) and (2) of the County Assemblies Powers and Privileges Act, 2017, by refusing to submit crucial reports to the House Committee on General Oversight, which has been investigating the irregular recruitment of casual workers and market cleaners.

A five-member select committee has been appointed to investigate the matter within ten days and report to the assembly whether it finds the allegations against the CEC to be substantiated.

The members are Francis Otiato (Yimbo East), Seth Baraka (East Gem), Cynthia Onyango (nominated), Oliver Arika (North Sakwa) and Dorah Abonyo (nominated).

The CEC will have the right to appear or be represented before the select committee.

Agola, who hails from Asembo in the Rarieda sub-county, is the second CEC to face impeachment after the removal from office of the former CEC for Water Ms Carolyne Onyango.

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of South Africa and worked in the banking sector before joining the county government.
