Former Chief Justice David Maraga has called for the shutdown of President William Ruto’s administration, citing state failure and alleged state-sponsored terror.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, June 11, Maraga accused the government of losing its legitimacy.
His remarks came after the release of an autopsy report on the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang’, which confirmed that he was strangled, tortured, and murdered while in custody.
“We now demand the regime shuts down, makes way for a reset to the rule of law and accountability; a restoration to the values respecting human life; and a rebuilding of our nation’s institutions that now point towards State failure,” said Maraga.
He linked Albert’s death to a spike in alleged abductions and enforced disappearances of young Kenyans, reportedly carried out by police under the current administration.
“It is not normal, not acceptable and totally indefensible for enforced disappearance to rise by 450% in one year,” he added.
According to Maraga, President Ruto’s administration is taking Kenyans for granted, urging citizens to resist impunity and the erosion of the rule of law.
“We refuse to be a country where parents have their children kidnapped in broad daylight, tortured and killed by state-sponsored terror,” he said.
