Nairobi – President William Ruto has taken a subtle dig at his former deputy as he emphasised unity in the country.
In his speech during Kithure Kindiki’s inauguration as impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s replacement, Ruto stressed the need for equal treatment for all Kenyans.
Gachagua has widely been accused of championing the interests of Mt Kenya with some leaders describing him as a villager.
However, in his address, Ruto emphasised the need for a national unity approach when discharging duties by all state officers.
“As I told our principal secretaries, as I told our cabinet secretaries and as I tell every public servant, who has responsibility who has a duty, who has the honour to serve our nation, let us, serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya. We are not here to serve ourselves or our families or our communities or our regions or our villages. We are here to serve the Republic of Kenya and the people of Kenya,” he stated.
