Nairobi – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua over his assassination attempts allegations.

Why DCI summoned Rigathi Gachagua
In a letter on Monday, October 21, the DCI said Gachagua’s allegations about purported attempts on his life were serious, given his status in society.

Detectives asked Gachagua to appear at its Nairobi headquarters along Kiambu Road on Tuesday, October 22, to record a statement so that prompt and thorough investigations into the claims could be conducted.
“These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly. In light of the seriousness of this matter, we kindly request your presence on 22nd October 2024 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters, Mazingira Complex-Kiambu. Road, to formally record your statement to enable prompt and thorough investigations into the matter,” DCI said in a statement signed by J.K Marete.
According to the DCI, the allegations by the impeached deputy president were sensitive and deserve serious investigations.
“We understand the sensitivity of the allegations and assure you that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves. Your statement is a crucial component of our investigation,” DCI added.

How Rigathi Gachagua survived assassination attempt
The latest development follows Gachagua’s explosive allegations that President William Ruto’s government attempted to take his life.
Speaking at The Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua claimed he survived two assassination attempts before his impeachment.
The first incident allegedly happened in Kisumu county, where undercover security agents allegedly poisoned his food.
The second incident happened in Nyeri county, where officers from the National Intelligence Service allegedly tried to poison his food.
According to Gachagua, the impeachment motion was Ruto’s last card after the failed assassination attempts.
