Why was Rigathi Gachagua summoned?
Gachagua, who spoke after his discharge from the hospital, had alleged surviving two assassination attempts: one in Kisumu by undercover security agents, and another in Nyeri through food poisoning by National Intelligence Service officers.

Due to the seriousness of these accusations and his high office, the DCI summoned him to their headquarters at Mazingira Complex on Kiambu Road on Tuesday, October 22, to facilitate an investigation.

“We understand the sensitivity of the allegations and assure you that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves. Your statement is a crucial component of our investigation,” DCI said.
How did Gachagua snub DCI’s summon?
However, instead of attending the DCI session, Gachagua chose to appear in Milimani Law Courts, where his impeachment hearing was in progress.
He spent most of the day at the court, closely following the proceedings as his legal team argued before a three-judge panel in a bid to retain his position as the second-in-command.
Meanwhile, security was heightened at the DCI headquarters, with police officers and two water cannons on standby in case of any unrest following Gachagua’s anticipated visit.
By the end of the day, however, he did not show up. The embattled deputy president did not communicate why snubbed the invitation.
