He made the startling revelations during a public address hours after leaving the hospital.

Gachagua drew parallels between his current political situation and that of Kenya’s second liberation hero, Kenneth Matiba, under the rule of former President Daniel arap Moi.

“For the last year, it has been very difficult for me. When I look at it, it is history repeating itself,” he stated.

Gachagua added that Ruto wanted to take him the route President Moi took Matiba by pushing him to his brink.

He compared his alleged ordeal to that of Matiba, who was a key figure in Kenya’s multi-party democracy movement but suffered greatly under Moi’s regime.

Matiba was detained and subjected to intense political pressure, which eventually led to a debilitating stroke, from which he never fully recovered.

Gachagua, once seen as a close ally to Ruto, has fallen from grace these past few weeks.

Tensions within the ruling administration led to irreparable cracks that could have profound implications for the former VP’s political career.

“I have stood firm, but it has not been easy,” Gachagua added, without providing specific details on the nature of the alleged pressure from the President.

Gachagua’s sentiments come at a time Kenyans are gearing up for his replacement, former Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.
