The Teachers Service Commission has announced a search for its next chief executive officer, signalling the end of Nancy Macharia’s decade at the helm.

In a public notice issued Tuesday, the TSC invited qualified Kenyan citizens with strong educational and management backgrounds to apply. Those wishing to replace Macharia have three weeks to apply.

“This marks a critical leadership transition for the Commission. The Secretary shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission responsible for implementation of policies, decisions, and strategies of the Commission,” TSC says.

The next CEO will serve an initial five-year term, renewable once depending on performance, in accordance with Section 16 of the TSC Act.

Applicants must be a Kenyan citizen; holder of a university degree in education from a recognised institution; possess at least 10 years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resource, or financial management; and satisfy the leadership and integrity requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

The incoming CEO will be the accounting officer, custodian of all commission records, supervise staff and ensure execution of commission decisions, and oversee implementation of policies and uphold public ethics and values.

Macharia, who made history in 2015 as the first woman to head the TSC, will conclude her second and final five-year term on June 30, 2025.
