At least 500 Kenyans were on Thursday, December 12, awarded national honours by President William Ruto during a ceremony at State House.
The awards followed celebrations to mark the 61st Jamhuri Day at Uhuru Gardens and other parts of the country.
“In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities,” President Ruto said, “I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, confer Awards and Honours to the following persons.”
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was among the recipients, receiving the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (First Class) for his contributions to public service.
The awards recognised individuals for their efforts in public service, professionalism and national development.
Other notable recipients included musician Prince Indah, who received the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), alongside actresses Sarah Hassan and Brenda Wairimu.
The Order of the Burning Spear is divided into three categories—Chief (CBS), Elder (EBS) and Moran (MBS)—and honours public dignitaries, professionals and exemplary members of the public service.
Military personnel, civilians and professionals were also recognised, with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja receiving the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (M.G.H).
Among the recipients of the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H., Second Class) were Gen. Kahariri Charles Muriu, Wanjau Mercy Wangui Kiiru, Lady Justice Mwilu Philomena Mbete, Dr. Mwadime Andrew, Lelelit Jonathan Lati and Salim Mvurya.
