Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi has announced plans by his ministry to incorporate irrigation as part of the comprehensive development plan for Gogo Hydropower Plant project in Migori.
The upgrade of the plant has already started at a cost of Sh5 billion and is part of an effort by the government to address the power shortage in South Nyanza.
“Gogo power plant is going to be a masterpiece once the upgrade is complete,” CS Wandayi remarked.
The CS visited Gogo hydropower plant, where he went to access the progress of its upgrade.
Wandayi highlighted that the Energy Ministry had allocated Sh1.6 billion that would help address issues of infrastructure.
According to the CS, out of the money, Sh800 million was coming through Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
He rallied people behind President William Ruto, saying that the president wanted matters of development done without any form of discrimination.
“It is very rare to have a president like William Ruto who addresses issues that have been there since independence in a manner that creates balance and empowers his officers fully,” CS Wandayi highlighted.
The CS told residents to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Ruto.
According to Wandayi, Raila has made a decision to walk with President Ruto.
He reminded Nyanza people that even if it was true that development was their right, leaders still needed to lobby for resources, which were scarce.
“You must realize that resources are ever scarce and that is why leaders lobby for them through established structures,” CS Wandayi said.
The CS, who was hosted by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, also planted trees at Midida Comprehensive School in line with the Presidential National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign, where he encouraged people to plant more trees.
Governor Ayacko said they went together as Migori leaders to lobby for resources for the benefit of their electorates.
“When leaders unite for something that benefits the people, good results are witnessed. Let us all unite and work for those who elected us,” the governor remarked.
