Nairobi – Renowned lawyer and scholar PLO Lumumba has expressed concerns over the handling of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment process.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, October 9, Lumumba called out MPs in the National Assembly for showing little interest in hearing Gachagua’s side of the story.

“You can see parliament was not interested in his side of the story,” Lumumba observed
Lumumba, known for his eloquence and sharp legal mind, likened the situation to a feeding frenzy targeting the embattled Deputy President.
He suggested that Gachagua is not being given a fair chance to defend himself, pointing out Senate speaker Amason Kingi’s speed in setting the ground running in the DP’s impeachment trial.
“I don’t think and I don’t want to anticipate this debate but the enthusiasm I see on the part of the Speaker of the Senate tells me that there is need, that Dracula is waiting and they want to eat him alive as it were,” he stated.
Why is Lumumba hopeful
Despite his concerns, Lumumba expressed hope that the Senate would uphold fairness in handling the matter.

He urged the senators to allow Gachagua the opportunity to present his case so they could evaluate if the constitutional threshold for impeachment had been met.
“I pray and hope that the Senate will acquit itself by according him the opportunity to present the case and ask itself whether the constitutional threshold has been met,” Lumumba stressed.
