John Macharia, Kapsaret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi’s official photographer, has emotionally thanked him for attending his dowry-giving ceremony.

How did Macharia and Sudi meet?

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Macharia said that the relationship between the two started in 2021, when the photographer from Ravine was just a hustler and was volunteering his services for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party campaigns.

“I used to take photographs of the events, politicians and would send them at no cost. After some time, Sudi spotted me and took me to his office to become his official photographer,” said Macharia.

“I was just a small boy from a small village Identified as Shauri Yako, in Eldama Ravine. I had no connections, a godfather, or anything remotely related to him, but he saw far beyond that,” he said.

Over time, the relationship between Sudi and Macharia has evolved from boss and employee, and in the photographer’s words, the lines have been blurred.

“You became a mentor, friend, and most recently, played a father role during my ruracio,” he said of his boss.

Why is Macharia grateful to Sudi?

You saw my talent, dedication, honesty, personal drive and ambition. I suspected you would; I had seen it from your keen attention, jovial nature and tales of your generosity and goodness to people.

What you probably didn’t know when you took me in was the fact that you were about to raise a whole generation. You see, even as I bustled in the crowds taking photographs or selling the UDA agenda while conducting registrations, I was actually living the “bottom up” hustler dream.

A little earlier back in 2017, the same period would have found me drunk, rowdy and aimlessly burnt up by the midday sun wondering who I would hustle the next 20 shillings for a shot of changáa. But I had chosen to get cleaned up, pulled myself up by the bootstraps and applied myself to work.

Why was hailed at the event?

The sum total, was the boy whose dedicated volunteerism you saw and elevated to the table of men

“I took my people from Baringo on a historic journey to the land of the Ameru to seek the hand of one of their beautiful daughter, a wonderful girl who stood by me when I was literally in the trenches,” said Macharia.

“I almost couldn’t believe I was going to honour Jennifer Kendi by officially taking her to be my wife under the witness of so many leaders. But you made that possible. Not only did it make me proud of the far I have come from, it truly humbled me. To rise from where I come from to where I am now can only be God’s grace,” he added.

Macharia told TUKO.co.ke that on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Sudi beat everyone else in being ready and was already at the venue in Meru by 9.00 am.

What is Macharia’s promise to Sudi?

“For you to not only honour me with your presence, but to also sit inside during negotiations speaks volumes of where you have placed me in your life. I render my deepest appreciation for touching my life in many valuable ways,” he said.

“What I am trying to do with so many words is to sincerely thank you for being who you are to me and my people. You have shown true friendship that surpasses tribe, age and status. I want to promise you that I will keep emulating you and light candles as you have mine,” he added.

Macharia also promise to be a good ambassador of Sudi’s tutelage by showing compassion, love and holding every hand that I can.

“You have taught me well and to use common lingo associated with you, kweli “umenikarabati”. God bless you,” said Macharia.

In 2023, Macharia and also showed his philanthropic side when he helped Eric Kipchumba, his former primary school deskmate.

According to Macharia, the two not only shared friendship but also dreams and ambitions. However, their lives took different turns when the latter developed mental issues, dropped out of school, and started living on the streets.

The sad state of affairs touched Macharia’s heart so much that he embarked on a mission to get him off the streets and rebuild his life.
