A week ago, 281 members of the National Assembly impeached Gachagua, and Nyeri residents vehemently expressed their displeasure with the decision.

Speaking to Citizen TV, a man who has since gone viral was captured lamenting over the ouster of Gachagua, who hails from Mathira in Nyeri.

He particularly took offence with his area MP for supporting the impeachment motion without consulting the electorate of the DP’s hometown.

“As a Nyeri resident, I am angry at the MPs for impeaching Gachaua. My MP, who sent you to do that? To Mr President, we respect you, but this is too much. We do not want that seat anymore, if Gachagua is going home, give the seat to Sudi, Kamuket. We at Mt Kenya are so disappointed and I don’t think we need you again,” he angrily said.

He had been flanked by other Nyeri locals from the DP’s home turf who expressed similar sentiments and disagreed with the impeachment.

“We are so disappointed. This is akin to what happened with the finance bill; they voted for it against our will and then came to apologise. This time we will have none of that,” another Nyeri local said.
