Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed reports associating him with a new political party.
In a statement yesterday, Mudavadi, who is also the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary, said he is in government to stay.
A statement signed by the Director of Press Service at Mudavadi’s office Jacob Ng’etich, Mudavadi said his former party ANC and President Ruto’s UDA merged in January to chart a united political course.
“Throughout his political life, Mudavadi has maintained integrity, honesty, and dignity in his way of doing things and has never had a double face.
“Mudavadi believes in high ideals of unity and cohesion and the move to merge his ANC party with the President’s UDA party was voluntary and was endorsed by the party members,” Ng’etich said.
He said former ANC party officials held high positions in the ruling party, including the deputy party leader seat, in addition to being key decision-makers in the way of running the outfit.
“Mudavadi remains committed to his government’s responsibility of diligently serving the people of Kenya and has absolutely no intention of joining another political outfit,” Ng’etich added.
When they announced the merger in January, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced that Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, who was ANC’s party leader, would be one of the new outfit’s deputy party leaders.
She also said Kelvin Lunani, who was ANC’s chair, had taken over the position of the party’s vice-chair while Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba, the former ANC’s secretary- general, became the party’s deputy secretary-general.
The merger event was witnessed by President Ruto and Mudavadi.
“Further to the inclusion of former ANC officials in the leadership of the UDA Party, other staff members will also be incorporated into the secretariat of the party, while structures and organs of the ANC will be integrated into the UDA Party,” said Mbarire.
