Nairobi – Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has shared some challenges that lawyers encounter in their line of duty.
Taking to his social media page on Thursday, November 7, Havi narrated how he survived death over a case involving KSh 200 million.
Havi shared details of how clients who had irregularly sold a hotel approached him after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations attached their bank accounts.
The senior counsel disclosed that he demanded KSh 5 million before he could agree to represent the suspects.
“Some young men sold Sirona Hotel using a fake title and received KSh 200 million. They came to me when the DCI attached their accounts then with only KSh 25 million remaining. I asked them to deposit fees of KSh 5 million before I could move to Court,” Havi stated.

However, before agreeing to the deal, Havi sought advice from lawyer Mugambi Imanyara, who warned him against getting involved in the KSh 200 million case.

“In the evening, we had maji ya anasa with Mugambi Imanyara, and I told him about it. He told me, “Those men are the walking dead. Do not take their money.”” he disclosed.
Havi disclosed that a week after his meeting with Imanyara, the suspects, together with their new lawyer, were shot dead under unclear circumstances.
“A week later, I saw a bullet-ridden Mercedes Benz 200C across my office at Parklands Station. I asked the OCPD, my school mate from Musingu what happened. He told me, “wale Mawakili wa Sirona na client wao waliumwa wote. Hakuna kesi tena.” he revealed.
He stated that had he not sought a piece of advice, he could have been killed; “I Would’ve Been Hayati”
