Top swimmers from Nairobi Region are geared up for battle at this year’s Brookside Secondary Schools National Term One games that begin on Tuesday in Mombasa.

The 30; 15 boys and 15 girls, will be battling for top honours and tickets to this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games that the country will host from August 14 to 22 in either Eldoret or Nakuru.

Even so, they are now focused on the task at hand which is to outclass their opponents and emerge victorious.

However, they face stiff competition from their hosts who are determined to outshine them when the swimming competition begins this Thursday at the Aga Khan Academy. Central, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Eastern and Western swimmers are also no pushovers and will be out to prove that they are also equally good and can challenge for medals.

The Nairobi team comprises swimmers who have been excelling in different swimming competitions.

The boys’ team has Andrew Ogola, Victor Oketch, Yong Kanagaru Arthur Mench and Rashaad Ali of Aga Khan Academy, Muriithi Mwangi, Curtis Kamotho and Solomon Mungai of Strathmore School. Others are Hardile Gupta (Oshwal Academy), Frank Oyugi (Swaminarayan), Jesse Kioko (Brookhouse), Xidi Munene (Rusinga School) Merrick Masaki (Nairobi School), Isaiah Munene (Moi Education Centre) and Joseph Beriny of Sunshine School.

Macrine Kalombo of Makini School and Nuru Azu of Swaminarayanwill lead the girls’ hunt for medals.
