Nairobi—A section of the Nairobi County Assembly has slammed Johnson Sakaja for his allegedly poor leadership.
On Thursday, November 7, the MCAs appealed to President William Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga to step in and sort out the mess in the capital.
Deputy Minority leader Waithera Chege said Sakaja has not delivered on some crucial promises made during the campaign period.
“After the 2022 general elections that is after August the county government promised Nairobi things including good roads, dignified affordable housing, street lighting, improved health care, and all those things put together. However, we and we have not seen any sign whatsoever of implementing all these things that we promised, especially in the governor’s manifesto,” Chege said.

On his part, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai termed Sakaja’s administration, arguing things in the city are getting worse each day.
According to Alai, Sakaja has failed to establish proper structures to effectively deliver the services to the residents.
“So today, Nairobi does not have proper structures or governance structures to run a county or a city the size of Nairobi, being the capital city of the country. We don’t have a substantive County Secretary. Chief officers most of them are clueless because they are getting orders from what the employees where the employees called Shakahola which is Riverside Drive,” Alai said.
The outspoken ODM MCA pointed out the issue of revenue collection, which he claimed is shredded in secrecy.
The Kileleshwa MCA claimed that currently, even the county’s revenue officers do not know who is in charge of revenue collections.

“Today, as we sit here, we don’t know who is collecting revenue in Nairobi. I’ve just spoken to the leadership of the Nairobi Revenue Authority. They don’t know who is managing the revenue of the country of the county. With more potential and a bigger metropolis, you know, more revenue capacity, Nairobi is collecting less revenue because this revenue is being pilfered at source by a few individuals in the executive and the county assembly,” he noted.
The lawmakers asked the president to step in and streamline issues in the county, warning that things could easily get out of hand.
