Nakola committed the heinous crime on March 20, 2017, at the Karega sub-location in Kigumo, Murang’a County.
The High Court in Murang’a delivered the sentence on Friday, October 25, with Justice Kanyi Kimondo stressing the severity of Nakola’s actions.
In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) revealed that Justice Kimondo pointed out that Nakola’s actions not only took a life but also inflicted deep psychological trauma on the victim’s family.
The prosecution, led by AnnPenny Gakumu and Caroline Muriu, presented compelling evidence through the testimonies of twelve witnesses.

Although there were no eyewitnesses to the murder or a recorded confession, the circumstances surrounding the case had evidence leading to Nakola’s guilt.

The court heard that Nakola had been employed as a farmhand by Wangari for over a decade before he turned on her.

Following his action, the convict strategically hid the body where the carcass of a cow had been buried to conceal the evidence.
As part of his cover-up, Nakola also stole from Wangari’s MPESA account and took household items from his girlfriend’s residence in the area.
“On the fateful day, the accused had strangled the deceased and buried her behind the cowshed, where the carcass of a cow had been buried a few days earlier. The top was covered with a heap of sand and banana stems. In an attempt to cover up, he continued to steal from her MPESA account and household items from his girlfriend’s house in Karega, Murang’a county,” said ODPP.
