Migori – Shock and sorrow have gripped Nyang’au village in Rongo sub-county after a man allegedly hacked his father to death following a dispute.

The tragic incident, which took place on Monday, October 28, around 2pm, has left the village in disbelief.

Eyewitnesses say Geoffrey Ariwa, the 37-year-old suspect, stormed his father’s compound and requested a private conversation with him before launching the fatal attack.

“The father was looking after the animals within the compound before his son called him for a chat,” recounted Maurice Otieno, an eyewitness.

Otieno said that shortly after the two began speaking, a heated altercation ensued, which quickly turned violent.

“They had an altercation, and before we paid much attention, we heard screams only to find he was attacking his father and took off as we approached them,” Otieno added.

Why did Geoffrey attack his father

A relative of the deceased, who was also present, revealed that Geoffrey and his father had longstanding issues over a KSh 200,000 debt.

According to the relative, Geoffrey had borrowed the money some years back, crediting it to his sister, and he was pressuring his father to repay it.

Rongo OCPD Shalim Fundi confirmed the incident, saying the father, identified as Agunga Ariwa, was found with severe injuries and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rongo Sub-County Hospital.

“We received an attack report of a father by son 37-year-old, the suspect had fled the scene on our arrival, leaving his father Agunga Ariwa half dead,” Fundi stated.

The police boss described the wounds sustained by the victim, noting deep cuts on the neck, chin, head, and shoulder.

The body has since been transferred to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary for postmortem as police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.
