A mother from Meru county whose young son passed away before the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national exams has emotionally opened up.

Naomi Kendi, mother to Nicholas Kairithia, gathered the courage and confidence to talk about her son, who was no longer there.
She vividly narrated about her Form 4 son’s illness that led to his death, which began in January 2024.

The heartbroken woman said her son had liver complications, which saw him in and out of hospital until his demise.
“He started stomach upset, and we took him to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). He was scanned, and doctors noticed he had liver complications. He had some growth. He was scheduled for surgery in March.
However, they scanned him again during the month of his surgery, and the updated medical report suggested that surgery was not crucial at the moment,” she said.
His mum said they had been going to the clinic, and he was also given medicine as doctors continued to assess the boy’s situation.
Doctors’ final report on Nicholas Kairithia
In October, the doctors confirmed they could do nothing concerning Kairithia’s situation.
“He was ready to sit for his exams even in the hospital. He was determined to sit for the final exams. He wanted to pursue electrical engineering after high school. He had done a few projects for people, which was his passion.”

In another story, after completing her Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams, Sarah Kemunto sought permission to visit her aunt.
The young girl from Kisumu was in high spirits. She anticipated seeing her cousins and swimming in the River Nyando.
Despite her cousins trying to talk her out of swimming in the river, she was determined, but her fun moment was short-lived.
