A total of 281 MPs supported the motion, while 44 voted against it, marking a significant point in Kenya’s history.
Karua recalled how the second in command publicly humiliated former president Uhuru Kenyatta shortly after taking office.
In a hard-hitting statement on Wednesday, October 9, Karua reflected on the transience of power and the lessons to those in positions of authority.
She highlighted a period when Gachagua enjoyed his newfound power, taking the opportunity to berate Uhuru, claiming they orchestrated a raid on his family’s farm.
“Gachagua, along with some of those who administered mob justice to him yesterday, were a happy lot during their honeymoon in power, while berating President Uhuru Kenyatta and orchestrating a raid on his family farm. They felt invincible at the time,” Karua said.

Karua stressed the importance of recognising that power is not permanent, urging those in authority to remember that circumstances can change rapidly.
She called for a greater emphasis on building systems that function effectively, not just for one’s allies but even for enemies.
“Gachagua’s circumstances today should serve as a reminder to each of them, and to all people in authority, that power is transient and tomorrow it could be you. That is why we must invest in systems that work, even for your worst enemy,” Karua opined.
