Abel Mwendwa was reportedly on his way home when he drowned in a dam located near his school.
Mwendwa’s mother, grief-stricken, stated that her son had called her before the tragedy, informing her that he had been sent home to collect school fees.
She expressed confusion and concern, questioning why the school principal had not contacted her directly regarding the matter, considering that KCSE examinations are ongoing.

“My son, Abel Mwendwa, called me and told me that he was sent home for school fees. I tried asking him why the principal did not call before he left, but he told me to confirm with the school head,” she told Citizen TV.
However, the school principal has denied the claim that Mwendwa was sent home due to fees, which has fuelled questions surrounding the circumstances of his departure.
How did KCSE candidate drown in dam?
Alexander Mwanzia, a witness to the incident, provided a harrowing account of Mwendwa’s final moments.
“I was the first to arrive and found the boy in the water without clothes. Before a rope could reach me to save him because he was heavily built, he had already drowned,” Mwanzia recounted.
In light of these developments, Machakos police have launched an investigation to scrutinise the conflicting accounts from the family and school as they seek answers in this heartbreaking incident.
