The Law Society of Kenya President, Faith Odhiambo, has called for accountability following the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang after being detained at Central police station, Nairobi.

Addressing the media on Sunday, Odhiambo dismissed the suicide allegations by the police, citing foul play.

“The story that has been shared is a lie and is an attempt to cover up what went down at the police station,” said Odhiambo.

The LSK president warned, seeking  accountability from the police, “Those who were present when this young man lost his life, we will not allow you to hide”.

Odhiambo argued that the fact that Ojwang’s family had been denied access to the crime scene raises questions.

“The fact that the family is not able to see the crime scene immediately raises questions. Do they want to prepare this crime scene to fit the story that they are trying to tell the public?” asked Odhiambo.

Odhiambo says since then,  the OCS and OCPD are nowhere to be seen and have not made efforts to investigations.

“The OCS and OCPD should not be allowed to evade responsibility; they must take responsibility for what has happened at this police station and be available to provide information to IPOA so that investigations can be conducted immediately,” she added.

The officers in charge of the station have since said that the cell was locked and they could not find the key.

Odhiambo reiterated that the victim could not have committed suicide since he had communicated to the family asking them to raise money for his bail out.

The LSK president further raised concerns about the police station and the conduct of officers in regards to extrajudicial killings.
