Leaders hail the strength of mothers on “World Women’s Day”

President William Ruto has hailed the foundational role women play in shaping society, saying their impact echoes through generations.

The Head of State celebrated the women whose love, strength, and resilience he described as forming the backbone of families and the fabric of society.

“Mothers are pillars of our families and play an irreplaceable role in shaping our societies,” he said.

“Through love, sacrifice, and care, they raise and nurture us to be responsible and productive. Today, we honour all mothers for their tireless devotion to family and society. We value you. We celebrate you.”

On her part, the First Lady, Rachel Ruto, offered a tribute describing motherhood as a journey of faith, endurance, and boundless love.

“This Mother’s Day, we honor the tireless spirit of every mother whose heart finds no peace until her child feels safe and loved,” she shared.

“A mother’s world is beautifully intertwined with the well-being of her children; every smile, tear, and victory echoes in her soul… a love that ‘bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things.’”

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale pointed out the central role mothers play in community health and national wellbeing.

“Today, we celebrate mothers, the heartbeat of our families and the foundation of community wellness. As caregivers and nurturers, they are central to our nation’s health and the well-being of future generations,” said Duale.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua offered a moving tribute that emphasized the divine and courageous aspects of motherhood.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all women who share in the creative nature of God and are mothers. It takes courage and love to host human life in your bodies in the gift begotten unto you by God our Father; we pay homage to you unreservedly,” he said.

At the county level, leaders echoed similar sentiments, with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga acknowledging both the joy and the pain that Mother’s Day can carry.

“We honour all mothers: biological, adoptive, foster, step, and grandmothers, and those who fill maternal roles with love. We also remember those who find this day difficult due to loss, distance, or hardship; we hold them in our hearts,” she said

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru emphasized the multiple roles mothers play in both home and national development.

“To all the incredible mothers who nurture, lead, and shape our families and nation, you are the true pillars of our society. We celebrate your strength, love, and resilience.”
