Kelly Odinga told TUKO.co.ke that they were frustrated by repeated calls to county and national governments to address the deteriorating roads in vain.
Tired of waiting, the community took matters into their own hands, demonstrating their commitment to improving essential infrastructure.

The self-driven initiative repaired and improved three major ring roads in a remarkable show of unity and resilience.
They rebuilt the Konono-Arombo Road, Arombo-Kakelo Baki Road, and the road connecting Nyangande Sub-county Hospital to Kouno Abwajo Bridge.
“These roads are vital lifelines for the community, providing access to local markets, hospitals, and schools,” Kelly said.
Acknowledging the urgent need for accessible roads, they rallied together through a WhatsApp group to raise the funds required for the ambitious project.
The rehabilitation involves murraming the ring roads and installing culverts to manage drainage and extend the lifespan of the roads.
This grassroots effort not only addressed their transport and accessibility issues but also enhanced the future prosperity of Kapiyo and Kolal villages.
Initially, the residents appealed to the County Government of Kisumu and their local Member of County Assembly, Hon. Oiko Pete, for assistance.
Although their formal request went unanswered, Pete provided a county grader, which they fuelled for the entire duration of the project.
