Kindiki says no region will be left out of development agenda

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to equitable development across the country.

Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of the newly completed Maralal Municipality Market in Samburu West, Samburu County, the Deputy President assured that every region will benefit from transformative projects designed to improve livelihoods.

“My work is to assist the President to deliver development to the people of Kenya, and I will ensure Samburu is not left behind and benefits from development like every other part of our country,” Prof Kindiki said.

The Maralal Municipality Market is part of the national government initiative to construct more than 400 modern markets across the country. Built at a cost of Sh73 million—with Sh23 million contributed by the county government—the market provides traders with modern, dignified working spaces.

“It is helping our traders to get decent places to work. We promised to construct modern markets for small-scale traders to work in dignified places,” said Kindiki.

“The markets are equipped with cold rooms, special rooms for lactating mothers, playing areas for children, and ICT hubs that will be freely accessible to our youth,” he added.

The DP also inspected the ongoing construction of Yamo Dam, which he said is nearing completion. The government has invested Sh2.2 billion in the project, which is expected to hold 1.5 billion litres of water to serve Maralal town and surrounding areas.

“What is remaining is piping from the dam to the town. In one year, it will be complete and the people of Samburu and Maralal will get a reliable source of water,” he said.

Kindiki announced that the long-awaited tarmacking of the Maralal-Baragoi road is set to begin, following the allocation of funds.

“We have the funds to tarmac the road, and the contractor will be here anytime from now,” he said.

The DP reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restore peace and security in Samburu County, vowing to eliminate banditry that has long affected the area.

“We will not sleep pretty until peace and security is fully restored in Samburu,” Kindiki declared.

He said that the Rumuruti Power Sub-station project is being fast-tracked to stabilise electricity supply in Maralal and its environs, to end frequent power outage.
