Kenya has finalised the power transmission agreement with Adani Energy Solutions Limited.

The Indian firm, a subsidiary of Adani Group, will now raise over KSh 95.68 billion in debt and equity to finance the project.
Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi said in a press statement on Friday, October 11, that the agreement marks the beginning of an initiative to maintain key transmission lines in Kenya.
“I am pleased to announce the successful signing of the Project Agreement between the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) and Adani Energy Solutions Limited today (the Project Company).
“This agreement marks the beginning of a transformative initiative to develop, finance, construct, operate, and maintain key transmission lines and substations across Kenya,” said Wandayi.
Wandayi cited the country’s frequent power blackouts, noting that the agreement with Adani is a solution to reliable and widespread access to power.

“We are all aware of the significant challenge that our country faces with persistent power blackouts. These projects are designed to significantly enhance our national electricity infrastructure (transmission lines and substation, ensuring reliable and widespread access to power that will support Kenya’s growing economy and development goals,” he said.
