Kenyans assured of their safety during the Easter holiday

The police have moved to assure Kenyans of their safety as the country gears up to celebrate the Easter Holiday while cautioning travelers to be careful on the road.

The National Police Service (NPS) says that traveling, which is associated with the holiday, presents unique security and safety challenges.

“These challenges are further exacerbated by the heavy rainfall affecting most parts of the country, which is creating hazardous conditions such as poor visibility and flooded roads,” said NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.

According to the spokesperson, these conditions are likely to lead to a spike in road traffic accidents.

Crime rate, particularly petty offenses, burglaries, and traffic violations, tends to increase over the Easter weekend.

“To safeguard citizens, residents, and visitors, the National Police Service has put in place a comprehensive security strategy, including increased police presence, intensified patrols, and heightened surveillance in shopping malls, places of worship, markets, and critical infrastructure.”

NPS says that its officers from the specialised units and undercover officers will be conducting patrols in all parts of the country.

Nyaga said that travelers using private and public means to get ready for random inspections to ensure compliance with road safety rules, which will be done in collaboration with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

“We urge all drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, and passengers to comply with traffic rules and regulations.”

The NPS spokesperson called on the public service vehicles (PSVs) owners and boda boda associations to collaborate with police officers to improve discipline among drivers and conductors.

Nyaga assured Kenyans that the security situation countrywide was relatively calm, adding that NPS had taken proactive measures to prevent criminal acts.
