The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer serving under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
According to a statement from NPS, the officer died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at around 2 am GMT in a road accident along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.
The tragedy occurred during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles.
During the towing process, the accident claimed the lives of the officer and two civilians. Eight other MSS officers sustained injuries, three of them in serious condition, and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga expressed condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues, assuring them of the service’s support during the difficult time.
“The National Police Service extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” Nyaga said.
The MSS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police, is making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya while ensuring the injured officers receive medical care.
