The rules state that once the timer starts, it cannot stop for 24 hours, and he must remain on stage the entire time.

“Each hug must be a full embrace, and each person can only hug him once to ensure an accurate count,” Guinness World Records notes.

Although it appears challenging, Achoka expressed confidence that he was physically ready to handle the pressure and achieve the dream.

How Achoka intends to achieve the dream

Achoka is seeking both public and financial support, as he requires an estimated KSh 1 million to bring his record attempt to life.

The fund will be used to cover the cost of livestreaming, professional witnesses, security, and other essential logistics.

“It’s like any other event,” he said. “If sponsors come onboard, it would be a noble way to spread some love.”

He hopes that with the help of fellow Kenyans, he will bring the record home, one hug at a time.

Where Achoka’s passion for hugs started

Achoka’s passion for spreading warmth through hugs began two years ago, and he quickly became a viral sensation in Kenya.

During the “Reject Finance Bill” protests in Nairobi, he embraced over 1,000 people within two hours, a display of camaraderie in a tense moment.

“We were just trying to change the stereotype that Nairobians are cold,” he explained. “If a thousand people came to hug you, it shows that people are warm.”

Beyond the numbers, Achoka says hugging has proven therapeutic for many as it serves as a form of release and relief from daily stress.

The longest hug he’s shared lasted about a minute, an experience he found “calming and conversational.”

“It’s like a therapy session. You can feel the weight lift off some people once the embrace ends,” he added.
