Kenya Police open six-point lead in title race

Kenya Police inched closer towards a maiden FKF Premier League title after seeing off FC Talanta 1-0 in a crucial match at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, which hosted a double header.

Relegation-fighting Nairobi City Stars played out to a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers in the battle to avoid the drop, with the stalemate slowing down Simba wa Nairobi’s charge to safety.

City Stars remain second-last with 31 points, three points off safety as Bidco United remain bottom with 29 points.

At Dandora, David Simiyu scored the lone goal of the match in the 15th minute to hand Police maximum points that saw them open a six-point gap at the helm of the 18-team standings.

The law enforcers sit top with 61 points with two matches left. They are six points ahead of Tusker who lost 7-1 to Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium.

The brewers bottled their chance to keep the pace with Police in the heavy defeat that their head coach Charles Okere described as humiliating and unacceptable.

“We have humiliated ourselves today. The result we have witnessed is unacceptable. We have to play football. I am not happy with the show from the boys,” said a disappointed Okere.

Jack Onganya scored a hat trick in the big win for Batoto ba Mungu as Edward Ondimo added a brace in the eight-goal thriller match that also saw Wyne Messi and Rodgers Kipkemoi score.

In Murang’a County, defending champions Gor Mahia dropped two points after another disappointing 0-0 draw with relegation fighting Murang’a Seal.

The draw left them seven points away from leaders Police as the race to retain their title becomes slimmer and slimmer by every week.

Despite having a game in hand against AFC Leopards, Gor must win all their remaining matches and hope Police lose.

At the same time, Kariobangi Sharks’ race to avoid being in the relegation mix was also slowed down after they lost 2-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz at Dandora Stadium.

Estone Omengo and Moses Shumah netted for Homeboyz who moved fourth with 54 points.

In Kisii, Shabana’s fine form in front of their mammoth fans was ended by Mara Sugar who picked a surprising 1-0 win at Gusii Stadium.

Cyrus Oucho scored three minutes to half time, the goal that sealed maximum points for the sugar men who moved two points off the bottom three.

Bnadari meanwhile drew 0-0 with AFC Leopards in Mombasa.
