Key projects worth billions of shillings, aimed at improving Kenya’s economy, will be completed on schedule to benefit all citizens, President William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki announced during their tour of Western region.
On Thursday, President Ruto commissioned the extension of a dyke for the River Nzoia flood control project in Budalang’i, Busia County.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable resource distribution.
The dyke is expected to prevent Lake Victoria’s backflow, preventing flooding and enabling residents to farm and engage in productive activities without fear of displacement. It will also protect critical infrastructure, including schools, trading centers, and shopping facilities.
“We have united with all leaders to move our country forward. Our priority is to serve the people, deliver on the development agenda, and improve the lives of all Kenyans. We are not interested in tribal politics or divisive agendas,” said Ruto.
DP Kindiki on the other hand highlighted the government’s focus on critical sectors of the economy, including agriculture, fishing, and sugarcane farming, which directly impact millions of Kenyans.
“The President is working to make every sector beneficial to wananchi, ensuring self-sufficiency and equitable opportunities for all citizens,” he said.
In Vihiga County, Ruto launched the construction of the Luanda modern market, a Sh366 million project designed to serve at least 2,000 traders. The market, expected to be completed within 18 months, will include sections for fresh produce, cereals, fish, ceramics, and general merchandise. Additional facilities will include an ICT hub, a food court, a crèche, and cold storage.
“After two years of stabilising the economy despite challenges like high interest rates and inflation, we are ready to roll out key national projects—roads, electricity expansion, and modern markets. We are here to ensure Vihiga County does not lag in development,” said Ruto.
The Luanda market is one of 400 markets built under the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
Kindiki reiterated the government’s development-oriented agenda, noting job creation through agriculture, livestock, fishing, and mining initiatives.
“This government serves all Kenyans. We reject divisive politics and tribalism,” he said.
