June 25 protests anniversary in pictures

Nairobi

As the country marks one year since the June 25 protests, young people have vowed to return to the streets.

A heavy police presence has been reported across Nairobi and other major towns.

By 6 am, Parliament Road was closed, with heightened security surrounding the parliamentary precincts.

The building was cordoned off with razor wire to prevent access by protesters.

Police have intensified operations, erecting roadblocks and sealing off major routes leading to Parliament and the Central Business District.

By 9am, protesters had begun gathering in Nairobi’s CBD, chanting the names of those killed during last year’s demonstrations.

Mombasa

In Mombasa, demonstrators held prayers at the ACK Cathedral before marching through the streets.

Meanwhile, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret are relatively calm, with few activities reported and police patrolling the streets.
