Juja MP denies staging self-abduction, released on Sh300,000 bail

Juja MP George Koimburi has denied two charges levelled against him, including alleged self-abduction.

The MP was arraigned before Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday after the magistrate BenMark Ekhubi ordered that he be presented in court in the afternoon after visiting a doctor.

Koimburi’s defense counsel had told court that he was seeing a doctor and requested that he be allowed to attend court from August 5 for his plea taking.

“The first letter here from the hospital indicates that by July 23 he will be through with the hospital matter and he can attend court. Let him finish with the doctor and be here at 2.00 pm,” magistrate Ekhubi ordered.

The prosecution side didn’t oppose the MP’s application to be released on bail, however, they asked the court to order him to present himself at Nairobi Area Traffic headquarters for fingerprint taking.

Koimburi agreed to present himself at the Nairobi Area Traffic headquarters on Thursday at 10.00 am.

The first charge stated that on May 25 at Mugutha area in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County, with other people already charged in court, conspired to defeat justice by stage managing his abduction in order to prevent his arrest and arraignment before Kiambu Law Courts to answer to four charges related to land fraud.

The second count stated that in June at Karen hospital via his YouTube account he gave a press release to the effect that he had been abducted and tortured by some criminals, information which he knew to be false and was aimed at causing panic among the public.

Koimburi was released on a cash bail of Sh300 000 with the provision of three contacts.

The case will be mentioned on August 5.
