Jubilee Party delegates from Kisii and Nyamira Counties want Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i in the 2027 General Election.
The delegates who were drawn from all the 12 constituencies of Kisii and Nyamira counties spoke at a hotel in Kisii County where the Party’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni presided over an endorsement of Dr Matiang’i as the formation’s presidential candidate.
Although elections are still about two years away, the politicians believe they must start planning early if they are to upset Ruto.
The delegates expressed the need for the opposition to unite and rally Kenyans to support a candidature of Matiangi.
“Kalonzo has been around for so long and he has been trying to vie for presidency unsuccessfully. What he needs to do now is to hand the baton to fresh blood.”
While addressing the gathering, Kioni insisted on the need for the opposition to have a common voice regarding who to support in the next general elections, but noted that Matiang’i was the best suited to stage the fight.
“Matiangi made highly recognized footprints in the country in every ministry that he was given to work in. We need no evidence to tell what the former CS did in Education, ICT and Interior Security where his work remains as evidence of him,” the secretary general said.
Janet Komenda, an aspiring Nyamira Woman MP noted that the Opposition needs to be keen while preparing for the campaigns which she said will not be easy considering what she termed as antics President Ruto was determined to perfect.
“We should be very cautious because the person we are dealing with is very cunning and is capable of swaying the ground given a very little chance. We should seal every loophole,” Ms Komenda said said.
“We need to form a formidable strategy against the President and we are only remaining with a single task: prevailing upon Kalonzo to support our candidate and we are confident he will,” Ben Nyabunga, Jubilee Party Nyamira Branch Cairman said.
The Party also embarked on membership registration which the delegates said will be intensified ahead of the reconstitution of IEBC Commission.
