The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the recent confrontation between police officers and Duka Moja Trading Centre residents in Narok County.  

The incident, which occurred on Friday, January 17, resulted in the deaths of two police officers and injuries to several others. 

According to IPOA, the violence began when residents barricaded the Narok–Mai Mahiu highway in protest after a motor vehicle accident killed several livestock. 

Clashes erupted as police attempted to restore traffic flow, with locals demanding compensation.  

In a press statement, IPOA condemned the confrontation, warning those responsible would be held accountable.  

“IPOA condemns in the strongest terms possible the confrontation between members of the public and police. We appeal to local leadership and government institutions to find lasting solutions to prevent such incidents in the future,” said Ahmed Issack Hassan, IPOA Chairperson.
