Former Law Society President Nelson Havi has called for the vetting of judges to be undertaken in a minimum of 10 years, a move he says will help minimise corruption and monitor poor performance in the Judiciary.

Speaking on Spice FM on Thursday, August 21, Havi accused the Judiciary of overseeing corruption and castigated the three arms of government for failing in their roles.

‘’The head of the Executive has failed, the head of the Judiciary has failed, and the two heads of the Legislature have failed. But we shouldn’t lose hope, because we’ve shown how this matter can be resolved through the ballot,’’ the lawyer said.

While calling for the ouster of Chief Justice Martha Koome for alleged failures in the judicial system, Havi said the public also has the power to reconstitute both the Executive and the Legislature.

‘’People will take the law into their own hands; it has happened in other countries before. Martha Koome should not take us there; she must leave office like yesterday, ’he said

Havi also criticised President William Ruto’s recent comments on the fight against corruption where he accused legislators of receiving bribes to pass Bills, and formed a multi-agency team on corruption.

‘’President William Ruto does not intend to fight corruption because corruption has punctuated his tenure in this government,” the lawyer said.

The former LSK president also called out Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who has in recent times made comments about African presidents holding powers for more than a term.

‘’This is what he normally says, that in Africa, a president ordinarily serves 10 years. Which Africa? Is Zambia not Africa? Is Ghana not Africa? Let’s not clap for his nonsense when he says such things.” Said Havi. “Instead, stand up and send him home,” he added.
