Grade 6 Pupil Misses KIPSEA Examination after Being Shot in Narok-Kuria Clashes

A 12-year-old Grade 6 learner sitting for the KIPSEA examination was shot dead in Gitembe, Kuria East, Migori county.

The killing happened at the height of the Narok-Kuria border clashes that have been in existence for decades and have claimed 12 lives in the past three months.

“It’s so heartbreaking to see my harmless son killed in such a manner; it pains me as a father. My son’s only crime was being a Kuria,” Wambura Marwa, the father of the deceased boy, said.

While battling tears, Wambura narrated to TUKO.co.ke that he learnt of his son’s death six hours after the incident.

“The police called us to the station and said that they were called by the assailants to come and pick my son’s body yet they have made no arrest we wonder why…I got information six hours after my sons death i didn’t believe what i saw his body was lying there in pieces,” Marwa narrated.

Marwa said his son left for herding at 11:00am on Sunday at the boarder, where he met his untimely death.

The family seeks justice amidst high tension among the two ethnic communities.

Locals are now accusing police officers who were recently stationed at the border to be supportive of the neighbouring Masai community and always taking a back seat while the neighbouring community raids their community.

“It’s not the first time we are being killed, this assailants always raid our farms, take our produce, proceed to our homes, steal our animals and kill our people,” said Magabe Johannes Chacha, a local.

The locals also accused the local government of not taking any action and always ignoring their cry.

Kuria East mp Kitayama Maisori expressed his dissatisfaction with the police officers which mentioned to be sleeping on their jobs.

“The incident is painful and we want a lasting solution this boarder conflict,” he said.

He called on the locals to remain calm and not go on a revange mission saying that dispite the pain and anger they should let the law take its cause.

“We have had meeting with both regional security officers and as soon as the parliament resume will be on the ground with national security committee to ensure a lasting solution is offered to our people,” he affirmed.

Migori deputy Governor Joseph Mahiri called on national government to take the issue seriously since security is under the national government .

“We have tried with the migori county governor but our neighbouring Narok county governor and area mp are reluctant on this issue,” Joseph Mahiri stated.

He also pointed accusing fingers at Narok county government for taking a back seet in solving the dispute.
