Nairobi – The Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy has refuted reports that Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, has been appointed to government.

A gazette notice purported to have been published by the president made rounds on social media, indicating that Charlene had been tasked to head the National Mining Corporation.

The purveyors of the notice sought to paint Ruto as one promoting the culture of nepotism in government appointments.
However, to clear the air, the ministry under Hassan Joho flagged the notice as a deep fake.
The docket shared the actual notice indicating that Joseph Kipchumba Lagat was the one Ruto appointed to head the corporation for three years.
“I (Ruto) appoint Joseph Kipchumba Lagat to be the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 4th of October, 2024,” the notice read.
